Posted: 5th October 2016
A year 8 student from Burnt Mill Academy has won gold at the British Judo London Area Green Belt and Below Open which took place on Saturday 24th September at London’s Sportsdock. Emma Nunn, of class 8 Cheshire 2 is a member of Bishops Stortford Judokwai and attends training twice a week, she also regularly attends another club, Rush Judo.
She competed in two weight categories, her own Under 32 weight and the 36 & under category. Her own weight category consisted of 3 fights, all of which she won, earning her the Gold medal.
Speaking of the competition, Emma said
“My first fight was the most difficult as the opponent was the most technical. It’s good to compete against new people from other clubs and I’m really pleased to have beat them all to win gold.”
Emma started Judo when she was aged 6, inspired by her father, and started competing at the age of 8. She has travelled all around the UK to compete and in October 2015 became the British Minor Champion. She describes Judo as a fun sport which although being very competitive is very safe, saying:
“instead of kicking and punching its more of a tactical sport. It teaches you self defence and discipline.”
