Burnt Mill supports local charity
Posted: 26th February 2019Burnt Mill Academy has been supporting St Clare Hospice in the town for the last two years.
Students, staff and families from the school raised a total of £180 for the hospice from a quiz night.
A raffle on the night included a prize of a pair of socks donated by singer Olly Murs.
The school also supported the charity’s Winter Walkies event, where dogs of all shapes and sizes took part in a 5k countryside walk.
Year 7 students collected photos of dogs to create an advertising display at the charity’s shop in the town.
Sophia Chippett, art teacher, said: “It is good to get students involved in the community and with charity events which are happening locally. St Clare Hospice is such an important charity.
“It has been great for students to see their artwork up on display in the shop.” The charity posted on its social media pages: “A wonderful group of Year 7 art students at Burnt Mill Academy designed this fabulous Winter Walkies window display for our charity shop, Scarlet Vintage & Retro, in #Harlow!
“The students designed this practically pawfect window display at an after-school art club, using images of all the pretty pooches who entered our Cutest Canine Competition. We think they've done a woofing wonderful job! We are so proud!”
