Hard-hitting reality check for teens and parents
Posted: 28th March 2019A hard-hitting reality check was given to students and their parents as they head towards exam season.
Year 9, 10 and 11 students at Burnt Mill Academy will take GCSE exams this summer.
In preparation, they were visited by Mr Beezy who offers assemblies “with high energy, humour and a hard-hitting motivational message to give your students the reality check they need”.
He gave students revision techniques to enable them to study successfully ahead of their mock exams.
Parents were also given tips on how to best support their children at home, by getting them into a routine and the various techniques they could put into practise.
Ciara Brosnan, head of Year 10, said: “Everyone loved it and was motivated to go home and use the different techniques.
“Parents can sometimes struggle to know how best to support their children during their exams and the important of studying at home. We often have parents come and ask what they can do to help and so we felt this was a good opportunity to get them in to discuss it.
“Mr Beezy gave tips such as breaking study down into chunks of say ten minutes study and then take a ten-minute break. He said to get into a routine now that becomes beneficial in the long run; to plan in study time so it is stuck to. He also said to go to our revision clubs and Saturday school and to ask a teacher if they do not understand something.
“This was the first time we have done anything like this as a school and hope to do more in the future.”
The visit was provided free of charge through the school’s partnership with Make it Happen.
