Young Carers Relax Away From Responsibilities
Posted: 7th December 2022Young carers were given time away from their responsibilities to enjoy a movie afternoon together.
The 50 students who are identified as being young carers came together to relax and watch a film.
The students from all year groups – who have a responsibility at home to care for a parent or sibling - watched Black Panther and were treated to popcorn, sweets and chocolate.
Aaliyah Callegari, pastoral support manager, said: “Our young carers do not often get to have treats as they take on the roles of adults sometimes. We thought it would be a good idea to let them be children and enjoy the afternoon relaxing with a movie and some snacks.
“Our young carers will get a treat every term to ensure they are getting to act like children, as well as fulfilling the responsibilities they have at home.”
“One of the children said it was nice to see who else in school is a young carer - that was one of the aims, to make them all feel like they are a community and that they are not alone in what they do in their homes.”
