Students Travel to London Careers Festival
Posted: 5th February 2025Carrers education starts early at Burnt Mill Academy, as a group of Year 8 & 9 students travelled into London Careers Festival which hosted in the Guildhall, London. A magnificent building which dates back to the 15th Century.
Our students spoke to professionals from the army, pilots, civil engineers, nurses and firefighters. Our students also had the opportunity to talk with representatives of older livery companies such the Worshipful Company of Educators, Bakers, Insurers, Weavers and Chartered Architects. Some of which date back to 12 century.
The Year 8 and 9 students spoke to the stall hosts with genuine curiosity and discussed how to start a career in each specific profession.
They participated in the interactive displays such as making a clokc at the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers's stall, building bridges at the WC of Chartered Architects' stall, using virtual reality headsets at the Web Access stall and had an interesting discussion on the orign of the secretary profession with our Chair of Governors, Mr Andrew Overton, and two members of the WC of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
The students said that they had a fun and informative time at the event and even took home a bag of freebies and leaflets each time they can refer to at a later date.
