She said: “It feels weird to be one of the top students. I have never done that well. After missing so much school in Year 10, I spent Year 11 staying at school until 9 o’clock at night and worked my butt off. I was expecting to achieve B, C and maybe D grades.
“It has all paid off. I am so over-the-moon!”
Ashleigh will study government and politics, physics and ethics, sociology and music at Presdales Sixth Form in Ware.
The school has been flying high in recent years since Helena Mills arrived and turned it into an Ofsted-rated Outstanding school with among the best GCSE results in the country.

“We have created a work ethic among this year group which will carry them forward in all careers and studies in the future.
“I am delighted these results have opened doors to children which will enable them to follow their dreams. We are a dream factory and Mr Blaney and I are already looking at how we can help all our other children achieve their dreams in the years to come.”
John Blaney has recently been appointed head of school at Burnt Mill to enable Ms Mills to focus her attention on all six of the BMAT schools.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted with these results. The fact we have managed to sustain the results at 80% for the second year is fantastic. We are thrilled for each and every student.”
