Students picked for exhibition
Posted: 21st March 2018Artistic students from Harlow are among the few to be invited to contribute their work to a prestigious exhibition.
Just ten schools in Essex have been selected to have their students’ work displayed at the Firstsite gallery in Colchester.
The Britishness Project will feature work from 15 GCSE students at Burnt Mill Academy for the whole season.
The Year 9, 10 and 11 students have worked with professional artist Sadie Hennessy to create the work on Britishness which will go on show with works from national collections.
They produced punk themed collages and printed images onto teasets.
Noel Lysons, head of art, design and technology, said: “This has been a great opportunity for our students to work with an established artist and to try different media. To be able to see their work on display in a gallery at the end is great.”
Students whose work will be on display from this week are Ronnie Witcomb, Grace Witcomb, Miya Brown, Elloise Robertson –Gray, Ava Robertson-Gray, Rosie Gumble, Libby Slow, Aimee Appleby, Chelsea Twiner, Emily Hibbert, Nicole Barr, Chloe Roythorne, Hannah Keeling, Leah Baldwin, Sophie Bundy.
The project aims to engage young people in producing high quality art and encourage them to use visual arts to explore issues of identity and Britishness.
