Parents urged to get involved with PTA
Posted: 22nd October 2019Parents are being urged to join our school’s relaunched PTA.
Burnt Mill Academy is looking to involve as many parents as possible in the future of the school.
A first meeting of the Family and Friends of Burnt Mill Academy has been held and an AGM set for later this month to discuss plans for a year of fundraising and discussions.
Louisa Carter, head of Sheppard House responsible for relaunching the PTA, said: “Everyone is welcome to come along to our meetings and to get involved. We have not had a PTA for a couple of years and so we are keen to relaunch it and to get a calendar of events planned for the year ahead. Anyone can help as much or as little as they want. This is a community and we want parents to be involved. I am keen to have lots of events involving both parents and students.
“It is important to get parents involved and to raise funds for the students and their school. Liaising with our Student Voice, I will be finding out what our students want the money raised to be spent on and encouraging them to take part in fundraising events themselves.”
Students are already doing their bit to boost the coffers by taking on a two-mile fun run around Harlow Town Park.
Throughout the year, there will also be a Christmas fair, Mother’s Day event and summer BBQ organised by the group.
A monthly newsletter will keep parents informed of the work of the PTA.
All are welcome to attend the meeting at 7pm on October 24 at Burnt Mill.
